The gears in the port engine are indeed gone, so the motor cannot engage when turned on and for some reason there has been water in the oil this year.
I called and spoke to the owner of the 80HP yamaha engine that was on Ebay to see if it was still available. We did not bid on Ebay for it. The place it comes from is a boat shop so I feel that this is a good deal. The saler has a very positive feedback on ebay. The engine only has about 200 hours on it and the compretion is good. It is one year newer in make than our broken engine and all of our wiring should just plug into it, making the swap over an easy dry dock effort. Like Bruce said it will cost $3900 to purchase and about $500 to get it here.
My son works at a place in Ogden with a dock to receive the crated engine and store it until we are ready to take it to the lake. I think this is a really good idea to trade the engine out. Our other working engine probably has close to 1,500 hours on it or more and runs like a top. I think the accident that Christen had may have started the demise of this engine and the rock it hit this summer was the final blow.
We will in reality be getting away like bandits with this used engine because it is like dropping a new one in there for a really reduced price.
I would like to go ahead with the purchase of this engine if the coorperation agrees. One thing I have noticed is that engines this size and make are not readily available in the secondhand market. I think that means owners are happy with them. As the boating season winds down I think there will be even less available for purchase. Patty Woodland
